ABOUT SUSAN
For as long as I can remember I have valued relationships and had a deep sense of empathy for others.
I can still remember completing my first career profile in Junior High and discovering that Counsellor was a recommended job for my personality type. That always felt right to me but there was one problem – I hated school and swore I would never go back after Grade 12.
After eight years of working in administrative roles and health care, I had a profound spiritual moment in which I felt a clear calling to return to school. My choice to pursue counselling and psychology came as no surprise to anyone who knows me.
The girl who swore she would never go back to school went on to obtain three post-secondary degrees. My highest degree is a Master of Science in Counselling Psychology; I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Christian Studies.
In 2004, after completing 10 years of schooling and practicums, I became a Registered Psychologist. After working in the field for several years and realizing how many of my clients had experienced traumatic life events, I began to explore best practices for treating trauma and discovered EMDR Therapy. I completed EMDR Basic Training in 2007/08; at that time EMDR was only 10 years old and there weren’t many therapists in Calgary who were trained in it. This training revolutionized my practice and, ever since, I have immersed myself in advanced trainings to further develop my knowledge and skills. In 2013 I earned the title of EMDR Certified Therapist, and in 2022 became an EMDR Approved Consultant.
